By default, CentOS only load 4 serial port interfaces. (CANBus OBDII use ttyS5)

We need to enable more interface by add a parameter to grub.

How to get the CAN module work under CentOS

Change to root permission by enter su
Under # prompt, modify the file: /etc/grub.conf
Add the parameter 8250.nr_uarts=8 at the end of kernel /vmlinuz….. line.
Save and exit.
Reboot the system
After boot into O.S. Enter the following commands, you should see /dev/ttyS[0-7]

dmesg | grep ttyS

7.The /dev/ttyS5 is for CANBus OBDII.

8. Install minicom by entering “yum install minicom”

9. Execute minicom with root permission by entering “minicom –s”

10.Select “Serial port setup” with following settings:

/dev/ttyS5

9600 8N1

Hardware Flow Control: NO (Important!)

11 Enter “AT DP”, it should answer “SAE J1939 (CAN 29/250)”
